Freshwater Cichilds

Cichlids are fishes from the family Cichlidae in the order Perciformes. Cichlids are members of a group known as the Labroidei along with the wrasses Labridae, damselfish Pomacentridae, and surfperches Embiotocidae.

This family is both large and diverse. At least 1,300 species have been scientifically described, making it one of the largest vertebrate families.

New species are discovered annually, and many species remain undescribed. The actual number of species is therefore unknown, with estimates varying between 1,300 and 3,000.

Aquarium Water Test Kits

There are many chemicals test we can run on our tank such as:
  1. Nitrite
  2. Nitrate
  3. Salinity/Specific Gravity
  4. pH
  5. Carbonate Water Hardness
  6. Alkalinity
  7. Chlorine and Chloramine
  8. Copper
  9. Phosphate
  10. Dissolved Oxygen
  11. Iron and Carbon Dioxide
  12. Ammonia
  13. And others
Buying these chemicals individual will cost us very much expensive. Whereby hobbyists can just go shop and buy master test kits which is sufficient to run on the tank.

The Freshwater Master Test Kit usually contain tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. Saltwater Liquid Master Test Kit usually contain tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and sometimes alkalinity.

African Cichlids

180g African Cichlid tank

Simply beautiful!

Literally have to keep changing water like 90-100%, clean out all the gravel. Then just whatever you were feeding your fish, feed them less.

DISCUS FISH high tank WHY NEED A HIGH TANK ?

High fish tank for discus. (H)117cm (L)61cm (W)38cm. Water volume: Top tank 271 litres / bottom tank 106 litres. The open bottom design allow fish to move from top to bottom tank without restriction.

This tank is built due to breeder prefer very deep water depth ...... as they believe that the depth of water is important for the growth of high bodies. The high water depth theory is actually being practised by a lot of Hong Kong breeders and it is a small wonder that we see HK's discus having extremely high body.

With bigger volume of water chances of water getting foul is much lower. The amnonia level will definitely increase to a higher concentration rapidly with a smaller volume of water.

Massive cleaning is reduced and cleaning is also make simple. The submersible biological filter in used can be easily washed and taken out through the opening outlet at the bottom of the tank. Partial change of water, removing unwanted particles or placing of rocks / plants if require is carried out in the lower tank that include feeding.

SETTING UP AN AQUARIUM

Many of the elements in an aquarium, like the water, rocks, substrate and filtration systems, may consist of living matter like bacterial and algae, or chemical compounds which undergo biological processes and produce by-products that may either harm or benefit your fish.
Therefore, whatever you decide to use in your aquarium setup will have a bearing on how livable the habitat you've created for your fish will be, and consequently how happy or miserable they will be.
Before you go about acquiring items for your aquarium, consider their intended purposes, their suitability for your setup and the possible impact they might have on the aquarium's ecosystem.
The general rule is that the bigger is better. The bigger tank holds a greater volume of water and provides more living space for your fish. But what's is important is that in the event of any deterioration in the water parameters, the resulting impact will be more dilute and there is a better chance of detecting problems that may follow. LOOK A tall, narrow tank looks more dramatic. But, cleaning it if this tank is upright with rocks and plant at the bottom is a problem.
So the tall and narrow OPEN BOTTOM tank will make removing of dirt and cleaning more easily through the opening outlet.

Pet Fish Care : How to Build an Aquarium

Building an aquarium by hand is often more costly and difficult than simply buying a new or used fish tank. Get information on how to build an aquarium with tips from the manager of a fish pet store in this free video on pet care.

A lot of customers want to know how to build their own aquarium. In most cases, this is more difficult than simply buying a brand new aquarium especially for smaller tanks. Because a ten gallons tank can be had for 10 to 15 dollars, simply the glass and equipment to put it together may cost you even more. The way tanks are built is sealing together panes of glass with a silicone aquarium sealant. The tricky thing to get down when building a tank is to making sure that everything is perfectly squared up. If the base is not exactly flats or the sides don't fit it in exactly right, the pressure and the weight of water will spring leaks quite easily. Some people build their own tanks for very large setup. This would involve ordering customs, thick acrylic panels for the front and building the other sides of the tank out of cinder blocks, bricks or woods and the coat it with a marine grade epoxy or some sort of pond liner. This type of setup is best left professional installers or other experts.
